Many of the Toy breeds have been carefully bred for centuries by a process of selective miniaturisation. Favourites of the courts and noble families, they were kept as lapdogs and companions, but in many cases their ancestry can be traced back to other breeds which where often larger.
The following breeds are all recognised by the English Kennel Club and listed under the Toy Group.
