The Pastoral Group has only been recognised as a group as recently as 1999, bringing the total number of groups to seven. With the exception of the Leonberger, which had been in the Utility Group, all the other breeds had been in the excessively large Working Group. It is this newly formed group that has the most numbers, currently totalling 30 breeds.
The following breeds are all recognised by the English Kennel Club and listed under the Pastoral Group.
